DIY PPF Academy Lesson 5 - Understanding the layout diagram

Every DIY PPF kit comes with a layout diagram. This diagram is really helpful and guides you through which PPF parts correspond to which parts of the vehicle.

Think of it like painting by numbers. Simply put, number 1 on the diagram, will correlate to number 1 on the film.

For example, number 1 might typically be the right hand a-pillar. Look through your parts till you find the PPF part with the number 1 somewhere on it, when you find that part, take it over to the car and double check, this should be for the a-pillar as outlined on the diagram.

This is the case with every part on the car. Bare in mind, some are grouped such as wing mirrors etc.

Keep your layout diagram safe and dry. You'll find it saves you a lot of time and will help ensure you're fitting the correct parts of PPF to the correct parts of the car. Fitting the wrong part to the wrong place and then removing it could cause damage to the PPF so you'll want to avoid that!

Lesson Summary

Every DIY PPF kit includes a layout diagram that guides you on which parts correspond to different areas of the vehicle, akin to painting by numbers:

Numbers on the diagram match the numbers on the film parts, indicating where each piece goes. Check each part against the diagram before application to ensure correct placement. Some parts may be grouped together, like wing mirrors. Keep the layout diagram safe and dry to prevent mistakes that could damage the PPF: Fitting the wrong part in the wrong place could harm the PPF layer. Having a large table to lay out the PPF pieces can be very helpful. The application kit contents will be discussed in upcoming videos, but generally: The kit will have a layout of the car with numbered parts. All numbers on the parts correlate with the diagram for easy matching. Not every tiny part may have a number sticker to avoid complication. Next, the parts will be divided up in the following video segment.
