What is Paint Protection Film or PPF?

Sounds like a simple question, but we're always surprised how many people ask!

Paint protection film (PPF) is an important tool for car owners looking to protect their car's paint job from any kind of damage, whether it be from the sun, rocks, dirt and debris, or even accidents. It is an essential part of any car care routine, as it helps to keep your car looking great and increase its value over time.

What is paint protection film (PPF)?

Paint protection films are thin films made of polyurethane or acrylic that are designed to protect the finish of a vehicle from the elements. These films are applied to the surface of the car and can be used to protect against scratches, chips, fading and other forms of damage.

Paint protection film PPF offers many benefits to car owners.
- It protects your car’s paint job from damage caused by the sun, dirt and debris, and other elements.
- It can help keep your car looking clean and new for longer as the films often have hydrophobic properties which help to stop dirt and grime sticking.
- Many PPF films also have self healing properties which allow them to heal with a small amount of heat or sunlight, this minimises the risk of small scratches.
- Having PPF can help increase the value of your car over time

There are two main types of paint protection films: clear and coloured. Clear paint protection films offer a more subtle look, but still provide protection from the elements. Coloured films can be used to enhance the look of the car, and can be applied in unique designs.

Paint Protection Film is applied wet and squeegeed into place by the fitter who removes all the slip solution from under the film. This allows the glue to set and the film to protect the car.

Typically, PPF lasts for many years with products warranted against yellowing, lifting and UV damage.

We'll dive much deeper into aspects of PPF and the fitting process, later on in our blog but for now, we hope this answered the simple question, what is PPF!

As always, drive safe!
